What is tongue tie or Ankyloglossia?
Many babies, children and adults suffer from a condition called “Tongue Tie” or “Lip Tie.” This condition is simply the connection of two areas in the mouth by a muscular attachment called frena (frenum in plural). Perhaps the most common form of tongue or lip tie is when the tongue is connected to the bottom of the mouth by a frenum which is too short thus restricting the normal movement of the tongue. The second area of concern is when the upper lip is connected to the gums just above the upper two front teeth. Either of these conditions can cause a variety of problems.
